Megadeth
Task: Create the first Flash-powered band website, build the band’s reputation as online pioneers as well as musical pioneers.
Megadeth, with their multi-platinum albums and chart topping hits have secured their place as one of the most innovative, intelligent, and influential metal bands of all time.
In 1998, Macromedia (now Adobe) Flash was just beginning to gain ground as a way to place spot animations and limited interactivity on the web. Seeing the potential of the technology, I strived to build a site that brought in an unusually rich media experience to the web, without massive load times. Along with content editor Mike Graben, I built the site in less than 2 months.
The launch of Megadeth.com resulted in an outpouring of positive press, including a feature on Apple.com and an official endorsement from GoLive, Inc. (who were later acquired by Adobe.)
The archive of the 1998-1999 site contained here is only partial. Sadly, some portions of the site are lost forever due to a crashed hard disk, including the intro movie. I learned the hard way to make better backups!
